The Student Centred Appraisal of Need provides a consistent approach in determining educational needs of individual students, so that additional resources to support students with a disability can be allocated to schools on an equitable basis. It is a way of looking at the particular needs of each student and the support they require to access school program and participate in the curriculum.
The meeting is facilitated by a trained Education Directorate moderator. Copies of the meeting record are distributed to participants.
All the members of a student's ILP team (which may include parents/carers, class teacher, executive teacher, school psychologist and therapists) are invited to attend a Student Centred Appraisal of Need meeting.
Frequency of meetings
Student Centred Appraisal of Need meetings are scheduled for each student at the transitions points during their schooling:
- Preschool - term 4 of final preschool year, after kindergarten placement is confirmed
- Kindergarten - term 1
